As the perceptions on the nature of the space in Guryong village differ between the state and the people, there is a conflict inherent in Guryong Village's existence. This conflict is exacerbated by the lack of respect for the everyday city embodied by the dwellers.
Redevelopment Plans
The city wants to replace the Guryong Village with highrises similar to those found in Gangnam and other wealthy districts. They are offering to move the people and give them money in exchange. There have been attempts to realize this vision since 2011, but they have stalled in talks with the people at almost every step of the way.
Compromises
As the people who live in Guryong village continue to exercise their right to inhabit the city that they believe they have lived in for the majority of their lives, the city faces a stark decision. They can either forcefully evict them once more in the interest of the city as a whole, effectively ignoring this right and failing to affirm the everyday city or they can find a compromise that suits all parties; thus affirming the everyday city and reaching a new level of spaciality.
